Sitabani Safari
The Sitabani zone of Jungle Safari in Jim Corbett National Park is also known as Corbett Landscape because of its pristine beauty, offering a chance to explore and visit famous attractions around. This is the safari zone located outside the area of Corbett Tiger Reserve, or CTR. The zone is considered a buffer zone and is open to everyone. This zone comprises temples, river streams, and a dense forest. One can explore here different wild animals like elephants, deer, Nilgai, etc. Even though it is a buffer zone of the forest, you can spot tigers, and leopards moving around in search of their prey.
Sitabani Safari Zone is the only one where tourists can go on a trek in the wild. However, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) is currently managing it. To enter the Sitabani Safari Zone, you will need a permit from the forest officials appointed at the entrance. You can also book this safari online through the official safari booking site. There is no limit on the number of vehicles entering this area.
Tale of the Sitabani Safari Zone
Sitabani is strongly connected to Indian mythology. The zone is related to the Hindu epic “Ramayana”, according to which, Goddess Sita, Lord Shri Rama, and Shri Lakshman were here in Sitabani Jungle for some days during exile. The name Sitabani is derived from the name of Goddess Sita, who took refuge in these forests while she was captured by the demon Ravana. It was in these forests that Sita found solace from the challenges of her journey.
There is a temple in this safari zone that is devoted to Lord Shiva and is maintained by the ASI department. Sitabani is also home to the popular Sitabani Temple, an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. This temple is believed to have been in existence for more than 1000 years and is a remarkable pilgrimage site for Hindu devotees. There are also some shallow river streams flowing through the Sitabani Safari Zone, which is a great attraction for tourists passing by. It is one of the safari zones in Corbett that is always full of tourists.
